HOA Updates
Restoring Transparency and Fairness in Our HOA
Dear Residents and HOA Board Members,
I am writing today out of a commitment to ensuring our HOA
operates with fairness, transparency, and accountability. As many of you know,
I previously served on the HOA board and stepped down due to concerns over
transparency. Since then, I’ve remained dedicated to supporting our community’s
well-being and ensuring that all residents have a clear understanding of how
our HOA operates.
The Issue: Discrepancy in Election Term Length
During the last election, official documents from the
property management company clearly stated that board members would serve a 1-year
term. However, shortly after the election, the HOA website was updated to
reflect a 2-year term, creating confusion. The property manager has
acknowledged this error privately, but no correction has been made.
This discrepancy is a concern because it could lead to
confusion regarding future elections and board terms. Additionally, our
community's bylaws do not currently specify term limits, leaving room for
further confusion and inconsistency.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just a small oversight; it’s about ensuring that
residents can trust the election process and that the board remains
accountable. The absence of term limits in our bylaws means there is no clear
structure for how long board members should serve, which can undermine fairness
and transparency.
Proposed Solution
1. Correct the Term Length: We need to update the HOA
website and all official documents to reflect the 1-year term originally stated
in the election materials. This will remove any confusion about the current
board terms.
2. Hold a Fair Election: In light of this confusion, we
should hold an election based on the 1-year term to ensure that residents have
the opportunity to participate fairly and equitably.
3. Establish Term Limits in the Bylaws: We should amend our
bylaws to include clear term limits for board members, which would ensure that
leadership remains fresh and that the board is accountable to the community.
Moving Forward Together
I want to make it clear that my goal is not to assign blame
but to address this issue in a way that strengthens our community’s governance.
I will approach the board with this solution and hope we can resolve this
quickly and fairly. If needed, I will work to ensure all residents are informed
and involved in the process.
Thank you for your time and attention. I am confident that
by working together, we can ensure that our HOA remains transparent, fair, and
accountable for all residents.
Sincerely,
DENNIS
